Bogomolov, Fedot Ivanovich
Died 1773. One of the leaders of the peasant and cossack movement of the 1770’s. Descended from serfs in Kazan Province.
In March 1772, Bogomolov proclaimed himself Emperor Peter III and stirred up a rebellion among the peasants and cossacks of the Volga Region. The movement, which preceded E. I. Pugachev’s uprising, was nipped in the bud. Bogomolov was captured and brought into Tsaritsyn on Apr. 1, 1772. A large crowd attempted to free him there. He was whipped and sentenced to hard labor. He died on the way to Siberia.
