Bohuslän Rock Paintings

Bohuslän Rock Paintings

drawings on rock walls in Bohuslän, Sweden, done in ancient times. The most ancient date from the Bronze Age and the most recent from the Viking era (the eighth to 11th centuries A.D.). The drawings depict boats with high, raised prows, carrying oarsmen, and wheeled vehicles, figures of warriors armed with swords, trumpeters, and figures of animals. Opinions vary as to the origin of the Bohuslán rock paintings; it is most likely that they had a cultic meaning.
