Boiarskii, Aron Iakovlevich
Born Oct. 2 (15), 1906, in Liepaia. Soviet economist and statistician. Demographer and professor (1934). Doctor of economics (1940). Honored Scientist of the RSFSR (1967). Member of the CPSU since 1931.
Boiarskii graduated from the Statistical Division of the department of social sciences of Moscow State University (1926). He is director of the Scientific Research Institute of the Central Statistical Administration of the USSR and head of the subdepartment of statistics in the department of economics at Moscow State University. He is a member of the International Statistical Institute (1966).
Boiarskii’s principal works on mathematical statistics, demography, and the use of mathematics in economic research are The Theory of Mathematical Statistics (1930, with V. N. Starovskii, V. I. Khotimskii, and B. S. Iastremskii); A Course in Demographic Statistics (1945); Demographic Statistics (1951, with P. P. Shusherin); and Mathematical Economic Essays (1962). Boiarskii has been awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor as well as medals.
