Boiary Writings

cliff paintings on the Boiary Mountain Ridge, stretching along the middle Sukhaia Tes’ River (a tributary of the Enisei), in Bograd Raion, Khakass Autonomous Oblast. The drawings, carved in dot technique, portray dwellings, household utensils, people, and animals (cows, yaks, horses, northern deer, sheep, goats, and dogs). The Boiary writings belong to the Tagar culture (seventh through third centuries B.C.) and partly carry over into a transitional stage (second century to the first half of the first century B.C.), the Tashtyk culture.
