Boii
Boii
a group of Celtic tribes who lived in ancient times on the territory of central and northwestern Bohemia, the Tirol, and northern Italy. They were subjugated by the Romans in Italy in 191 B.C. (The name “Bohemia” is derived from the name of this tribe.) Around 60 B.C. part of the Boii moved out of Bohemia into Pannonia and Noricum, and from there partially into Gaul. There is no more information on the Boii after the settlement of Bohemia by the Marcomanni (end of the first century B.C.). The Boii played an important role in the ethnogenesis of the Czech people.
