Boiler and Turbine Institute

 

(full name: the I. I. Polzunov Central Research Institute for the Design and Construction of Boilers and Turbines, TsKTI), the head institute for construction of power machinery in the USSR; organized in 1927 in Leningrad.

The institute includes an experimental factory and a heat and electric power plant in Leningrad and a division in Moscow. The institute concentrates on topics related to prospective power plants and equipment and the creation of new power engineering equipment (in collaboration with industry). The institute takes part in the familiarization and inauguration process of automated steam turbine units (modules), gas turbine installations, hydraulic turbines, and the like; defines trends of development for power engineering equipment; and coordinates the research and development work conducted in individual plants and branch organizations of the industry. TsKTI has a postgraduate course of studies and publishes Trudy (since 1931) and data on standardization.
