Ashirov, Chary

Born 1910, in the village of Keshi, near Ashkhabad. Soviet Turkmen poet. Member of the CPSU since 1944.

Born into the family of a peasant, Ashirov studied at the Institute of Scientific Pedagogy and published his first works in 1928. He is the author of lyric poetry and of the narrative poems Bloody Resistance, Parting (1939), In the Rear of the Enemy (1941), The Young Miller’s Blunder (1957), and other works. Together with D. Zotov, he wrote the novella The Traveler Controls the Road (1939). His narrative poem End of the Bloody Watershed (1948; Russian translation, 1953) depicts the social processes that occurred in the Turkmen countryside after the October Revolution. Ashirov translates the works of Russian classics into Turkmen. He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
