Click the link for more information. . A favorite pleasure ground since the 17th cent., the park contains the race courses of Auteuil and Longchamps and many delightful promenades and bridle paths. Bois de Boulognea park on the western outskirts of Paris with an area of 848 hectares. It arose on the site of a wooded massif owned in the eighth century by the Abbey of Saint Denis and in the 16th to 18th centuries by the French kings. In the 17th century the park became a place for promenades. Its first lanes were built in 1815. In 1854 it was laid out in the style of landscaped parks according to the plans of G. J. A.
