Bokarius, Nikolai Sergeevich

 

Born 1869; died 1931. Soviet forensic physician and criminologist, one of the founders of Russian forensic medicine and criminal law.

From 1928, Bokarius was the chief forensic medical expert of the Ukrainian SSR. On his initiative an office of scientific forensic experts was created in Kharkov in 1923. It was reorganized in 1926 into the Institute of Forensic Medicine and renamed the Bokarius Institute of Forensic Medicine in 1931. Bokarius’s works include Forensic Medical, Microscopic, and Microchemical Investigations of Material Evidence (1910), External Examination of a Corpse at the Site of an Accident or Its Discovery (1929), and Forensic Medicine for Physicians and Lawyers (1930).
