danger area1. In air traffic control, an airspace of defined dimensions within which activities dangerous to the flight of aircraft may exist at specified times. 2. (DOD only) A specified area above, below, or within which there may be potential danger. See also closed area; prohibited area; restricted area.danger area
danger area[′dān·jər ′er·ē·ə] (navigation) A specified area within, below, or over which there may exist activities constituting potential danger to aircraft flying over it, or to persons, property, and traffic on land or sea. danger area An airspace of defined dimensions within which activities dangerous to the flight of aircraft may exist at specified times (ICAO). This activity is normally of a military nature, such as those taking place on a weapons-firing range or in a parachute-jumping or target-towing area. It is denoted by the letter D on aeronautical charts. The term is, however, not used in reference to areas within the United States or any of its possessions or territories. |
