Colecalciferol, vitamin D3, the natural form of the vitamin, formed in the skin by the action of the ultraviolet component of sunlight on 7-dehydrocholesterol. As a drug, the vitamin is usually formulated along with calcium for the treatment of calcium deficiency or OSTEOPOROSIS. Brand names are Cacit D3, Calceos and Calcichew.
