capsular contraction syndrome

capsular contraction syndrome

An exaggerated reduction in the anterior capsulectomy opening (phimosis) and equatorial bag diameter after extracapsular cataract extraction, which is linked to continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis and may result in obscured vision, distortion of the capsule affecting the intraocular lens (IOL)'s position and function and progressive contraction, which can result in zonular dehiscence, leading to capsular/IOL complex dislocation.
Management
Nd-YAG capsulotomy if moderate, surgical capsulotomy if severe.
