As commonly used, the surgical removal of a breast implant (or any capsular implant) and the reactive fibrous tissue that develops around it, which may contract and put pressure on the implant.
Ophthalmology
The removal of the anterior or posterior capsule in patients with cataracts.
Orthopaedics
The stripping of the chondral surface of a joint in the case of flexion contractions of the elbow, hand and other joints, which may be of use in patients with osteoarthritis (degenerative joint disease) and rheumatoid arthritis.
