Daniil Chernyi
Born circa 1360; died circa 1430. Russian artist.
Daniil Chernyi worked in the Uspenskii Cathedral in Vladimir (1408) and in the Troitskii Cathedral of the St. Sergius Trinity Monastery in Zagorsk (1420’s) with his friend Andrei Rublev and other master craftsmen. A role in the creation of some of the icons for these cathedrals has been ascribed to Daniil Chernyi (the icons of the Vladimir Uspenskii Cathedral are now in the Tret’iakov Gallery in Moscow and in the Russian Museum in Leningrad).
