Danin, Daniil Semenovich

Born Feb. 25 (Mar. 10), 1914, in Vilnius. Soviet Russian author and critic. Member of the CPSU since 1956.

Danin took part in the Great Patriotic War (1941–45). His first work was published in 1938. Danin’s books The Good Atom (1957), The Inevitability of a Strange World (1961; 3rd ed., 1966), Rutherford (1967: 2nd ed., 1968), and Niels Bohr, 1885–1962 (parts 1–2, 1970–71) are devoted to men of science and to the cognitive and moral-psychological problems of their life and creative work. These works belong to the documentary genre of fictionalized scientific literature. Danin is the author of the theoretical articles on fictionalized scientific literature The Thirst for Clarity (1960) and How Much Art Is Necessary for Science? (1968). Since 1967. Danin has worked as a screenwriter and critic in fictionalized scientific films. He was awarded two orders and various medals.
