Bolva

 

a river in Kaluga and Briansk oblasts, RSFSR. A left tributary of the Desna River, the Bolva is 213 km long and drains a basin of 4,340 sq km. It originates on the southern slopes of the Smolensk Highland, and its mean annual flow at the mouth is about 22 cu m/sec. The river is used for floating timber. There is some navigation in its lower reaches. The city of Kirov (Kaluga Oblast) is situated on the river.
