Bolvano-Iz

Bolvano-Iz

or Man’-Pupuner, a mountain in the Northern Urals at the headwaters of the Pechora River. It has an elevation of 840 m and is composed of sericitic and quartz schist of the Paleozoic era. Mesas in the shape of columns or “posts” up to 30 m high (bolvany, hence the name of the mountain) rise from the flattened summit of the mountain; these are unique natural phenomena. The slopes of the mountain are covered with taiga; the summit, with mountain tundra.
