Established: 1937.
Location:On the western shore of Delaware Bay about 10 miles northeast of Dover, Delaware.
Facilities:Visitor center, auto tour route, trails, observation towers, historic Allee House.
Activities:Hiking, hunting, educational programs, bird and wildlife watching.
Special Features:During May and June, when horseshoe crabs lay eggs along the bay shore and mud flats, thousands of shorebirds stop to feed before continuing their northward migration.
Habitats: 15,978 acres primarily of tidal salt marsh, with creeks, rivers, croplands, freshwater impoundments, wooded upland, swamp, and brush.
Access: Open during daylight hours. Portions closed seasonally.
Wild life: Migrating waterfowl, a variety of ducks, shorebirds, wading birds, frogs, turtles, whitetail deer, horseshoe crabs.
