electrolytic tank electrolytic tank[i′lek·trə‚lid·ik ′taŋk] (engineering) A tank in which voltages are applied to an enlarged scale model of an electron-tube system or a reduced scale model of an aerodynamic system immersed in a poorly conducting liquid, and equipotential lines between electrodes are traced; used as an aid to electron-tube design or in computing ideal fluid flow; the latter application is based on the fact that the velocity potential in ideal flow and the stream function in planar flow satisfy the same equation, Laplace's equation, as an electrostatic potential. Also known as electric tank; potential flow analyzer. |
