Choose Well

An NHS initiative which attempts to reduce the misallocation of resources that occurs when patients choose the wrong level of service they need to solve their health problems. As an example, about one-fourth of visits to A&E (casualty) could be dealt with by the patient him/herself (self-care), with a phone call (NHS Direct), consultation with a pharmacist, a visit to the patient’s GP, or at an NHS walk-in centre.
