Carbon Ammoniate

any of the solutions of ammonium carbonate or of ammonium carbonate and urea in ammonia water; a type of ammoniate. Carbon ammoniates are colorless, yellowish liquids with a sharp ammonia odor and a density of 1.1–1.4 g/cm³; they contain 18–35 percent nitrogen and 4–7 percent free ammonia.

Carbon ammoniates are used as liquid nitrogen fertilizers for all types of crops and on various types of soil. They are applied to a depth of 10–12 cm during plowing, before the planting of crops, and as topdressing using a machine that combines the operations of placing fertilizer and applying herbicide. The amount of carbon ammoniate required to introduce a given amount of nitrogen into the soil is the same as in the case of solid nitrogen fertilizers.
