Courant, Ernest D. (David)

(1920– ) physicist; born in Goettingen, Germany. He came to the U.S.A. in 1934. He taught and performed research in theoretical and atomic physics in several U.S. universities and in Canada before joining the Brookhaven National Laboratories (1948). He made major contributions to the "strong-focusing" of magnetic fields used in particle accelerators.
