dissociative sedation

A trancelike state induced by anesthetics in which a patient feels no pain, and has no memory of unpleasant events, but can cooperate with commands and suggestions. In this state the patient has normal airway (protective) reflexes. One drug that produces dissociative sedation is ketamine. See also: sedation
