Antsiferov, Danila Iakovlevich
Date of birth unknown; died 1712. Russian explorer.
In 1711, after the death of V. Atlasov, Antsiferov was chosen as the Kazakh hetman of Kamchatka and with I. P. Kozyrevskii headed the first party of Russian Kazakhs to visit the islands of Shumshu and Paramushir (in the Kurile Islands). Petitions signed by Antsiferov and his comrades were the first descriptions of these islands. Antsiferov was killed by the Itel’mens. A cape and volcano on Paramushir Island and an island in the Kurile group are named after him.
