Activities:Camping, boating (non-power), fishing, swimming, hiking, mountain biking.
Special Features:In spring, the recreation area is a popular destination for birdwatchers who come to see the world's largest concentration of sandhillcranes, as the cranes and other migratory waterfowl congregate in thecentral Platte River Valley. The camping area is shaded by statelycottonwood trees, some of which are more than 100 years old. Eightsandpit lakes are available for fishing, and the Fort Kearney StateHistorical Park is located nearby.
