The Desoria glacialis jumps very well. It is sometimes found in swarms in Alpine glaciers in an active state despite relatively low temperatures (near 0° C). Some other species of Collembola from the genera Podura and Achorutes are found in great numbers in temperate regions on the snow on warm winter days. As a result they acquired the name “the snow fleas.”
