Established: 1958.
Location:25 miles north of Omaha.
Facilities:Visitor center, picnic areas, viewing sites, photo blind, boat ramp, auto tour route (12 miles), trails, historic features.
Activities:Boating, canoeing, fishing, ice fishing, hunting, mushroom picking, educational programs.
Special Features:Refuge lies in the fertile plain of the Missouri River Valley and includes 875-acre DeSoto Lake. Between 300,000 to 800,000 snow geese stop here during their annual fall migration.
Habitats: 8,362 acres of forest, grassland, cropland and wetlands.
Access: Daily from 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset.
Wild life: Snow geese, wood ducks, mallards, pheasants, eagles, songbirds, and white-tailed deer.
