On the southeastern border of ID, northeast of Pocatello; organized Feb 7, 1911 from Bingham County. Name Origin: For Benjamin Louis Eulalie de Bonneville (1796-1878), French-born officer in the Mexican-American War and explorer of California and the Rocky Mountains region (1831-31); immortalized in the Adventures of Captain Bonneville (1837) by Washington Irving (1783-1859).
