Force Pump
force pump[′fȯrs ‚pəmp] (mechanical engineering) A pump fitted with a solid plunger and a suction valve which draws and forces a liquid to a considerable height above the valve or puts the liquid under a considerable pressure. Force Pump a device in the fuel feed system of a diesel engine that combines a high-pressure fuel pump and the nozzle part of an injector; it is used to inject the fuel directly into the combustion chamber of the engine. The combination of the pump and the injector into a single unit provides a significant reduction in the volume of fuel contained between the plunger of the pump and the orifices in the spray tip of the atomizer, thus minimizing distortion of the flow rate. Such distortions in a subdivided fuel feed system result from the compressibility of fuel and from pressure variations in the system. force pump Related to force pump: lift pumpWords related to force pumpnoun pump used to force a liquid up and expel it under pressureRelated Words |
