Daria Garmash

Garmash, Dar’ia Matveevna

 

Born Dec. 21, 1919, in Selo Staroe, in present-day Chernobai Raion, Cherkassy Oblast. Initiator of women’s tractor brigade competition in the USSR (1942), Honored Mechanization Expert of the RSFSR (1958). Became a member of the CPSU in 1943. A tractor operator from 1936 to 1938, tractor brigade leader from 1942 to 1949, and director of the Rybnovsk Machine-Tractor Station from 1950 to 1958 and of the Rybnovsk Maintenance-Technology Station from 1958 to 1961. Beginning in 1961 she managed the Rybnovsk Raion section of the Agricultural Equipment and Materials Agency of Riazan’ Oblast. She was deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of the second through fourth convocations. She was awarded the State Prize of the USSR (1946). In 1945, Garmash was a delegate to the First World Congress of Women in Paris. She has been awarded two orders and also medals.
