The Book of Mormon is Joseph Smith's translation of golden plates said to be shown him by the angel Moroni beginning on September 21, 1823, in Palmyra, New York. Covering the time from roughly 600 BCE to 421 CE, they tell the story of how God preserved a people in the Americas who would reveal God's plan during the latter days of earthly life.

Mormons read the Book of Mormon along with the Bible, calling it another testament of Jesus Christ.
