Cardiocrinum

a genus of bulbous plants of the lily family.

Cardiocrina are monocarpous plants that bloom in the fourthor fifth year and form a massive stem, about 2.5 m in height andcovered with heart-shaped leaves. The leaves closest to the rootsare about 30 cm long. The flowers are white, brownish inside;they are aromatic and up to 15 cm in length. There are 20–25flowers in an inflorescence. The three known species of Cardio-crinum grow in the damp forests of the Himalayas, central andeastern China, Japan, Sakhalin Island, and the Kuril Islands. Allspecies of Cardiocrinum are ornamental. They are propagatedboth by seed, which germinate a year after sowing, and bydaughter bulbs.
