cardiomyocyte

(kar″dē-ō-mī′ŏ-sīt″) [ cardio- + myocyte] A cardiac muscle cell. The cell is striated, containing thick and thin proteins arranged linearly. These filaments are composed, like other striated muscle cells, largely of actin and myosin. The cell has an abundant supply of mitochondria that supply the energy needed by the cell for regular muscular contraction.
