community development worker

A person in the UK who works within a particular community to implement social change and improve local quality of life by working with individuals, families or entire communities to empower them to:
• Identify their needs, opportunities, rights and responsibilities;
• Plan goals and take appropriate steps towards achieving them;
• Develop activities and services to improve their constituency’s lives.
Community development workers often act as a link between communities and local government and other statutory bodies, and are involved in addressing inequalities—e.g., of Black peopls and Asian minorities.
