Borchaninov, Aleksandr Lukich

Born Sept. 28 (Oct. 10), 1884, in the village of Ziukai, Perm’ Province; died Mar. 23, 1932, in Rostov-on-Don. Soviet party and state leader. Joined the Communist Party in 1903. Born into a worker’s family.

Borchaninov joined the revolutionary movement in 1901. In 1903 he was a member of the Perm’ and Motovilikha committees of the RSDLP. He participated in the December armed insurrection in Motovilikha. In March 1906 he became a member of the Kiev committee of the RSDLP. He was repeatedly subjected to persecution. In June 1917 he became chairman of the Motovilikha soviet and a member of the Perm’ committee of the RSDLP (Bolshevik). He was a delegate to the Sixth Congress of the RSDLP (Bolshevik). As a delegate to the Second Congress of Soviets, he took part in the October armed insurrection in Petrograd. He was chairman of the Perm’ soviet from 1918 to 1920, took part in the Civil War on the Eastern and Southern fronts, and was chairman of the Odessa Province revolutionary committee. In August 1921, Borchaninov became chairman of the Perm’ Province cheka and a member of the provincial committee of the RCP (Bolshevik) and the provincial executive committee. He carried on soviet and party work in Tiumen’, Perm’, Tula, Krasnodar, and Rostov-on-Don (until 1932). From 1926 to 1928 he was an instructor of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee. He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner.
