Ashot Grashi
Grashi, Ashot Bagdasarovich
(pseudonym of A. B. Grigorian). Born May 9(22). 1910. in Baku. Soviet Armenian poet. Member of the CPSU since 1941.
Born into the family of an oil worker. Grashi’s works were first published in 1929. The poems in the collections With the People (1938) and Lyrics (1938). some of which are rhetorical, are imbued with love of life and patriotism. In later collections Grashi’s poems are distinguished by the unfeigned, natural quality of intonation: Military Lyrics (1942), My Spring (1947). On the Roads of Victory (1947), Under the Star of Brotherhood (1949). and A Song Flies Through the World (1952). Lyricism and civic awareness are characteristic of his poems, in which the themes of friendship among peoples and struggle for peace are brought to life (for example, Poem of My Love, 1954, and Seven Songs of the Rainbow, 1961). Grashi has been awarded two orders and various medals.
