Chromansil

a structural steel alloyed with chromium, manganese, and silicon (about 1 percent of each element); the carbon content varies from 0.17 to 0.39 percent, depending on the type of chromansil. An inexpensive steel, chromansil acquires a favorable combination of strength and ductility after heat treatment, as well as good machinability. It is used in the form of sheets, bars, pipes, strips, and forgings in various branches of machine building. In the USSR, types 20KhGSA and 30KhGSA, among others, are produced.
