Fringe medicine
A generic term for a format of alternative medicine that uses an energy field (i.e., electrical, magnetic, sonic, acoustic, microwave, infrared) to screen for, or allegedly treat, health conditions by detecting imbalances in the body’s energy fields and then correcting them. The patient/client is evaluated by electroacupuncture biofeedback, in which a device measures electrical resistance at acupuncture points that correspond to specific organs and tissue, known as “control measurement points”. Therapy is allegedly effected by various devices, including the cymatic device, Diapulse™, Electro-Acuscope™, Infratonic QCM, MORA, sound probe, TENS unit, and the Teslar Watch. Anecdotal reports suggest that energy medicine can detect aflavatoxin B1 intoxication, chronic fatigue syndrome, failure to thrive, Hashimoto’s disease, lung cancer, schistosomiasis and other conditions, and is claimed to be effective for allergies, angina, circulatory defects, dermatopathies, headaches, bacterial or viral infections, migraines, myopathies, myalgias, rheumatoid arthritis, sore throats, tendinitis and other conditions.
