Boris Aleksandrovich

Died Feb. 10, 1461. Grand prince of Tver’ from 1425; son of the grand prince of Tver’, Aleksandr Ivanoyich.

In 1446, Boris Aleksandrovich fought with Novgorod, seized Torzhok, and entered into an alliance with Prince Dmitrii Shemiaka and the prince of Mozhaisk, Ivan An-dreevich; together they seized the treasury of the grand prince of Moscow, Vasilii II Vasil’evich Temnyi. Convinced that Tver’ would not succeed in establishing hegemony over northeastern Russia, Boris Aleksandrovich made peace with Vasilii II and negotiated a marriage between his daughter Mariia and Vasilii’s son Ivan, the future grand prince.

At the command of Boris Aleksandrovich, a chronicle setting forth the history of the world from its creation to the fall of Constantinople (1453) was compiled; at the center of the narrative is the Tver’ principality. The Praiseworthy Word About the Lord and Master Grand Prince Boris Aleksandrovich by the monk Foma appeared during his reign.
