Boris Dorn
Dorn, Boris Andreevich
(also Bernard Dorn). Born Apr. 29 (May 11), 1805, in Schónefeld, Germany; died May 19 (31), 1881, in St. Petersburg, Russia. Russian Orientalist; specialist in Iranian and Semitic philology and in the history and ethnology of the Afghans and peoples of the Caspian coastal region. Academician of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences (1842).
Dorn studied at the universities of Halle and Leipzig. He was a professor at the University of Kharkov from 1829 to 1835 and at the Institute of Oriental Languages from 1835 to 1839. In 1842 he became director of the Asiatic Museum.
