chromogranin/secretogranin family

chromogranin/secretogranin family

A family of 20–100-kD acidic glycoproteins present in secretory granule-laden endocrine cells (e.g., pancreatic islets) and tumours (e.g., gastrinomas). The chromogranins and secretogranins are present in the soluble fraction of neurosecretory granules and serve as “pan-endocrine” markers for neuroendocrine tumours (e.g., carcinoids) and small cell carcinoma.
