Boris Pavlovich Bugaev

Born July 29, 1923, in the village of Man’kovka, Cherkassy Oblast. Soviet state and party figure. Chief marshal of aviation (1977); Hero of Socialist Labor (1966). Member of the CPSU since 1946.

The son of a teacher, Bugaev graduated from the Higher Aviation School of Civil Aviation in 1966. In 1942 and 1943 he was a pilot instructor at the Aktiubinsk School of the Civil Aviation Fleet. A pilot from 1943 to 1946, he took part in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–45. Between 1947 and 1966 he was a pilot, aircraft commander, and commander of an aviation detachment of the Civil Aviation Fleet. After serving as deputy minister and first deputy minister of civil aviation of the USSR from 1966 to 1970, Bugaev became minister of civil aviation in 1970. He was elected a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU in 1971. He was a deputy to the eighth through tenth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.

Bugaev received the State Prize of the USSR in 1972 and has been awarded four Orders of Lenin, two Orders of the Red Banner, the Order of the Red Star, the Order for Service to the Motherland in the Armed Forces of the USSR Third Class, the Order of the Badge of Honor, and various medals.
