Boris Pompeevich Multanovskii

Mul’tanovskii, Boris Pompeevich

 

Born Apr. 11 (23), 1876, in St. Petersburg; died Mar. 4, 1938, in Leningrad. Soviet meteorologist. Academician of the V. I. Lenin All-Union Academy of Agricultural Sciences (1935).

Mul’tanovskii graduated from the University of St. Petersburg in 1899 and in 1900 began working at the Main Physical Observatory (renamed Main Geophysical Observatory in 1924). He formulated the principles of the synoptic method of long-range weather forecasting and put long-range forecasting to practical use in the national economy of the USSR.
