Dzhelepov, Boris Sergeevich

Born Nov. 29 (Dec. 12), 1910, in Odessa. Soviet physicist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1953).

Dzhelepov graduated from Leningrad University in 1931. From 1931 to 1943 he worked in the Physicotechnical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. Beginning in 1945 he was with the Radium Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. From 1939 to 1941 and from 1946 he worked in the All-Union Institute of Metrology and from 1935 to 1941 and from 1944, at Leningrad University. His principal works were in nuclear physics, mainly in nuclear spectroscopy. Dzhelepov introduced new methods of γ-spectroscopy and new devices and equipment for γ- and β-spectroscopy. He investigated the decay of α-radioactive isotopes and the influence of the electric field of the nucleus on β-decay. He also discovered a number of radioactive isotopes. Dzhelepov was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor and various medals.
