Boris Vladimirovich Bakin

Born May 28 (June 10), 1913, in Vologda. Soviet state and party figure. Hero of Socialist Labor (1975). Member of the CPSU since 1941.

The son of an office worker, Bakin graduated from the All-Union Correspondence Power Engineering Institute in 1959. He began working as an electrician in 1930. In 1933 he became a foreman at the Magnitogorsk office of the All-Union Elektromontazh Trust of the People’s Commissariat for Heavy Industry; he subsequently was named a work superintendent at the office. From 1936 to 1938 he served in the Soviet Army. From 1938 to 1944, Bakin was initially a work superintendent and then a section head in a special installation department of the Uralelektromontazh Trust of the People’s Commissariat for Construction.

Between 1944 and 1961, Bakin headed electrical installation departments in Nizhnii Tagil, Cheliabinsk, and Moscow. From 1961 to 1967 he was the manager of the Spetselektromontazh Trust of the Ministry of Installation and Specialized Construction Work of the USSR. He was deputy minister of installation and specialized construction work of the USSR from 1967 to 1975; in 1975 he was named minister.

Bakin was elected a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU in 1976. He was deputy to the ninth and tenth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. Bakin has been awarded four Orders of Lenin, three other orders, and various medals.
