A disorder characterised by prolonged and/or progressive blockage of urine flow from both kidneys due to urethral obstruction.Clinical findings
Irritability, urgency, bladder incontinence, urine stasis, UTIs and urine reflux into ureters and kidney, leading to pyelonephritis and hydronephrosis; CBOU leads to hypertension and/or renal failure.
Aetiology
Bladder tumours; tumours or other structures of the bladder neck or urethra; kidney and/or bladder stones. The most common cause in men is benign prostatic hypertrophy and prostate cancer; in women, cystocele.
