electronic clock

[i‚lek′trän·ik ′kläk] (horology) A clock that uses a ferrite rod and coil to pick up the electromagnetic field of 60-hertz power line wiring in a house; this 60-hertz voltage is amplified by a transistor amplifier and used to control a transistor oscillator that drives a tiny permanent-magnet synchronous clock motor; two mercury cells provide power for the transistors.
