Inflammation of the nasal mucous membrane marked by hypertrophy of the mucous membrane of the turbinates and the septum. The symptoms are those of nasal obstruction, postnasal discharge, and recurrent head colds. The treatment is surgical removal of the hypertrophic or mulberry ends of the inferior turbinates and cauterization of the mucosa of the inferior turbinates and septum. See also: rhinitis
