Borodavka-Nerodich, Iatsko

Year of birth unknown; died August 1621. Leader of the popular uprising of 1619–21 in the Ukraine.

During the uprising, which broke out under Perekop during the campaign against the Tatars, unregistered Cossacks, who favored the overthrow of the oppressive Polish feudal lords, proclaimed Borodavka hetmán in place of P. Sagai-dachnyi. In the summer of 1621, Borodavka, at the head of 40,000 Cossacks, advanced to Khotin against the Turks and Tatars who had invaded the Ukraine. In return for Cossack participation in the campaign, Borodavka demanded that the Polish government ease the lot of the popular masses in the Ukraine. In response, he was seized and executed.
