Borovykh, Andrei Egorovich

Born Oct. 30, 1921, in Kursk. Colonel general of aviation (1968), twice Hero of the Soviet Union (Aug. 24, 1943, and Feb. 23, 1945); Honored Military Pilot of the USSR (1966). Member of the CPSU since 1943.

In January 1940, Borovykh volunteered for the Soviet Army. He graduated from the Military Aviation School. During the Great Patriotic War he advanced from pilot to deputy commander of the 157th Fighter Regiment, made several hundred combat sorties, participated in more than 130 air battles, and shot down 32 enemy planes single-handedly and 14 as a member of a group. After the war he graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1951 and from the Military Academy of the General Staff in 1957. He was a deputy to the second convocation of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. He has been awarded two Orders of Lenin, five Orders of the Red Banner, the Order of Alexander Nevsky, the Order of the Red Star, a Polish order, and medals.
